Cable Stitch Calculator — Width & Yarn Impact

Calculate how cables affect fabric width and yarn consumption.

Stitches per cable (e.g. C6F = 6)

Enter the total quantity

Value for total stitches

Stitches per 10cm from your gauge swatch

How We Calculate This

Cables pull fabric narrower because stitches cross over each other. This calculator estimates the width reduction and extra yarn consumption.

The formula

Width reduction = Cable area width x 12% (average cable contraction)

Extra yarn = (Cable stitches / Total stitches) x 15%
